Being
the commercial hub of China, Shanghai is well developed in transportation
by land, water and air.
Shanghai is surrounded by an outer-ring road, inner-ring viaduct,
south-north viaduct and Yanan Road viaduct providing excellent
road systems. Various freeways such as the: Hu Jia Lu Freeway,
Hu Ning Freeway, Hu Qing Ping Freeway and Hu Song Freeway connect
Shanghai with neighboring destinations rendering faster road accessibility
and more convenience in urban communications for tourists.
Taxis are easily available and all use meters starting from RMB10
and RMB13 after 11.00 pm for the first 3 km.
Apart from the excellent road systems, Shanghai is also complimented
by its sophisticated metro lines linking the various key business
districts and suburbs offering an alternative way of transportation
to the general public.
The introduction of the world's first commercial Maglev system in 2003 with a total railway of 30km lies between the Longyang Station of metro line 2 in the west and Pudong International Airport in the East, operating at 430 km/h, and offering high tech speedy airport access within the Pudong area.
The recent completion of the Lu Pu Bridge project linking Puxi
and Pudong also helped to reduce the total traveling time between
Pudong International Airport and the business district in Puxi
from one hour to 45 minutes. Finally, the Shanghai railway station
is also a very busy transportation center which dispatches 160
trains daily back and forth from Shanghai in routes such as: Shanghai-Nanjing,
Shanghai-Hangzhou-Ningbo.
