Elton Lu From Pudong Shangri La Wins 2008 IBHS Karoake Competition |
|
| |
For immediate release
Shanghai, China, April 14 2008: More than 30 karaoke singers from some of Shanghai’s leading 4 and 5 star hotels competed in the annual IBHS (International Branded Hotels of Shanghai) Karaoke competition held on April 8, in the Lyceum Theatre, Shanghai.
The IBHS is an organization that unites Shanghai’s best 4 and 5 star international hotels with a membership of 60 hotels and over 26,000 guest rooms in the city. The IBHS is a division of the Shanghai Hotel Industry Association and has been meeting on a regular basis since it began back in 1993 with just nine member hotels.
This is the third year that the IBHS has hosted the karaoke competition and the caliber of the contestants continues to grow each year.
From the 30 contestants who initially competed in the two semi-finals, the judges had a tough job of picking the ten finalists. This year’s finalists went all out with some even incorporating dancers into their performances.
However there can only ever be one winner and this year the winner was from Elton Lu from Pudong Shangri La; 2nd place went to John Yao from JW Mandarin Hotel and 3rd place went to Phil Chen from the JW Marriott Hotel Shanghai.
The atmosphere in the Lyceum Theatre was overwhelming with supporters from each of the contestants hotels there to cheer their fellow contestant on.

The IBHS now has sixty members and on behalf of the growing membership Mr. William Hall, Chairman of the IBHS, presented the contribution to the Shanghai Charity Foundation.
Chairman William Hall said "All of the international hotels in Shanghai are very much part of the community and we are delighted to work again with the Shanghai Charity Foundation to support this worthy cause. International hoteliers have a warm sense of hospitality and are also very much aware that we can extend helping hands to those that need our assistance. All of our member hotels will work with their own various charities and good causes either individually or under a group banner plus the IBHS will hold a variety of events throughout the year to raise monies for worthwhile causes the main event is the Annual Charity Golf Tournament now in its 5th year this June 2008."
This charity donation will be used to help local children with congenital heart disease being treated at the famous Fudan Children's Hospital in Xuhui District Shanghai.
All future IBHS fundraising activities will contribute to the IBHS Foundation, whose funds will be used to support local organizations, and groups of people in need, in association with the Shanghai Charity Foundation.

IBHS Members go from the Past to the Present |

| IBHS members enjoyed a members meeting with a difference as the venue was the hotel that was established in Shanghai in 1858, a property that has had a long and colorful history; some of the first electric lights in Shanghai, the first phone call made in Shanghai and the first stock exchange in China after 1949 in Shanghai were at this hotel. The hotel - the Astor Hotel - billed itself as the Waldorf Astoria of the Orient Peter Hibbard, the eminent speaker, local historian and author, gave a presentation on the hotel scene of the early 1900's .
