October 2003 - All over the world, almost at this time of the year the Terry Fox Run will take place. It was no different in Shanghai. This year, approximately 10,000 Shanghai residents took part in the Shanghai 6 th Terry Fox Run held at the Century Park, Pudong. People from all walks of life contributed to the event by joining efforts to raise funds for cancer research. Also present on the day were 18 member hotels of the International Brand Hotels Shanghai (IBHS) with the participation of over 800 staff members who showed their support towards this annual cancer research fund raising event.

An approximate total of RMB 700,000 was raised exceeding the RMB300, 000 collected last year. “We are very pleased to be able to achieve this year’s amount which exceeded our expectations. A big ‘Thank You’ to everyone present today and those who made the event possible,” quipped Mr. Robert B Mackenzie, the newly appointed Consul-General of Canada in Shanghai.

Later this year the actual funds (at time of writing, more funds are still coming in) will be presented to Rui Jin Hospital in Shanghai for its cancer research projects. The hospital has been the appointed recipient of the funds for the last 6 years by The Terry Fox Foundation in Canada. A check presentation of the actual funds collected will be held in mid-December 2003 at a ceremony.
